Mathematics undergraduate in Aalto University to publish in a top cross-disciplinary journal

Samu Potka, an undergraduate student in the Aalto University Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis has published an article in the cross-disciplinary Journal of Algebraic Statistics. The article is based on Potka's Bachelor's Thesis, which is the first independent thesis at the university level. Extremely few Bachelor papers qualify for peer-reviewed academic journals. Potka's article applies methods of algebraic geometry to statistics. According to professor Engström it is exceptional that a student gets published in such an early stage. Normally it is PhD students who start having peer-reviewed articles under their belt. Engström compliments both Potka's mathematical talent and his discipline.   Read more
