Urs B. Roth is a Swiss architect and mathematician. His work is based on strictly mathematically generated form. He developed, among others, the non-periodic order of 16 656 points on the façade of the new Vorarlberg Museum in Bregenz, Austria for Cukrowicz Nachbaur Architects.
Yves Klett: Technical Tessellations: Origami, aerospace and architecture

Hall TU2, TUAS building, Otaniementie 17

The expression "origami" comprises many different things. Literally meaning "folding (ori) of paper (kami)" , origami can be art, hobby, handicraft, meditation - or more recently deal with the mathematical underpinnings or scientific and technological use of stuff being folded not only from paper, but many different materials ranging from leaves to carbon fibers. This talk will give a short introduction into the topic of technical origami (or "origami sekkei") and tell the story of research that was originally motivated by a search for new lightweight aerospace-use materials, but has meanwhile branched out into and connected with many other scientific and creative disciplines. Several potential applications for innovative folded structures will be showcased. A number of interesting and sometimes entertaining results from finished and ongoing projects will hopefully convey the fascination of origami-related research.
